A tyre change at home is a job that many people are perfectly capable of doing with the right tools and knowledge. There is no doubt that safety is one of the most important aspects of the job. If you don’t feel comfortable or experienced enough to do it yourself, it’s best to take your vehicle to a professional.
To start, you will need a few basic tools, such as a lug wrench, a jack and jack stands, wheel chocks and an optional torque wrench. Make sure your vehicle is securely parked and chocked before you begin. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel to be removed and use your jack to lift the car off the ground. Make sure you keep the car secure before removing the wheel completely. Once the wheel is off, replace it with the new wheel, line up the holes, and thread in the lug nuts by hand. Use your lug wrench to tighten them, making sure you don’t overtighten them.
Finally, take your torque wrench and torque each lug nut in a star pattern to the manufacturer’s recommended torque specifications for your vehicle. Lower the car back onto the ground and double check that all of your lug nuts are tight and secure
